The Cribbage! store art: four spade cards fanned above the pixel wordmark, with colored pegs, on green felt.

Why Cribbage is weird

Cribbage has an awkward shape for a digital card game. There is a shared crib everyone contributes to before the hand begins, a pegging phase where the running count matters, and then a scoring phase where the same cards mean something different again.

Putting that online made the rules only half the problem. Up to four players have to agree on which phase the game is in, whose turn it is, what each player is allowed to see, and what happens when somebody drags a card somewhere it should not go.

What shipped

It runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and SteamOS.

  • Four AI difficulties for solo play
  • Online play with up to three friends
  • A real pegging board, with somewhere to actually put the pegs
  • Scoring that counts a hand the way a person at a kitchen table would
  • Customization earned by playing rather than bought

Where it stands

Cribbage! is out on Steam and, for once, I can call one of my games finished. I still come back when something needs fixing, but most of my time has moved on to whatever I am making next.
